Il densitometro DEN-1 fornisce l'opportunità di misurare la torbidità di soluzioni in un vasto range di unità McFarland, in ogni caso occorre ricordare che in questo caso aumenta il valore della deviazione standard.
Il densitometro è utilizzato per la misurazione di concentrazione delle cellule (batteri, lieviti, cellule) durante il processo di fermentazione, determinare la sensibilità agli antibiotici dei microrganismi, identificazione di vari microrganismi utilizzando vari test o sistemi, per la misurazione dell'assorbanza a determinate lunghezze d'onda, così come per stimare la concentrazione quantitativa di soluzioni colrate, assorbendo la luce verde.
L'operazione principale è basata sulla misurazione della densità ottica con presentazione digitale dei risultati in unità McFarland. L'unità viene calibrata dalla casa madre e mantiene la calibrazione senza alimentazione. E' comunque possibile se necessario calibrare l'unità in 2-6 punti nel range da 0.5 - 5.0 unità McFarland.
Gli standard per la calibrazione (prodotti da BioMerieux, Lachema, etc.) possono essere utilizzati per la calibrazione
